Italian Stromboli Recipe

Stromboli is a delicious Italian-American creation that’s reminiscent of a rolled pizza or a stuffed bread. This recipe takes all the classic flavors of Italian cuisine and wraps them in a warm, golden-brown dough for a mouthwatering treat. Whether you serve it as an appetizer, a main course, or a game-day snack, Italian Stromboli is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • Flour for dusting

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup sliced onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil for brushing

Instructions:

1. Preheat and Prepare:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Roll Out the Dough:

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangular shape, about 12×16 inches.

3. Layer the Ingredients:

  • Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  • Layer the cooked Italian sausage, sliced pepperoni, sliced bell peppers, sliced onions, and sliced black olives on top of the cheese.
  • Sprinkle dried oregano and garlic powder over the filling.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Roll It Up:

  • Starting from one of the long edges, carefully roll the dough and filling into a log shape, similar to a jellyroll or a burrito.

5. Seal and Brush:

  • Pinch the seams and ends of the stromboli to seal it.
  • Place the stromboli seam side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Brush the top of the stromboli with olive oil to give it a golden finish when baked.

6. Bake to Perfection:

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the stromboli is golden brown and crispy on the outside.

7. Cool and Slice:

  • Allow the stromboli to cool slightly before slicing it into thick, delicious pieces.

8. Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve your homemade Italian Stromboli warm, either as an appetizer, a main course, or a delectable snack. Dip it in extra marinara sauce if desired.
