  • Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and black pepper.

2. Sear the Chicken:

  • In a large ovenproof skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.

4. Create the Sauce:

  • Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the caramelized onions and stir to combine.
  • Pour in the beef broth and continue stirring until the mixture thickens and becomes a flavorful sauce.

5. Add Chicken and Cheese:

  • Return the seared chicken breasts to the skillet, nestling them into the onion sauce.
  • Sprinkle the top of each chicken breast with shredded Swiss cheese.

6. Bake:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature of 165°F or 74°C) and the cheese is bubbly and golden.

7. Garnish and Serve:

  • If desired, garnish your French Onion Chicken Bake with fresh thyme leaves for a touch of herbaceous flavor.

8. Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve the chicken hot with plenty of the caramelized onion sauce spooned over the top.
