These Homemade Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or side dish. They are perfect for pairing with pasta, soup, or as a snack on their own. With a crispy exterior and gooey, cheesy center, they’re sure to be a hit!

πŸ“‹ Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 🌾 1 cup warm water (110Β°F or 45Β°C)
  • πŸ₯„ 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 🍬 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 🌾 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • πŸ§‚ 1 teaspoon salt
  • 🌿 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the Garlic Butter:

  • 🧈 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • πŸ§„ 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 🌿 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 🌿 1 teaspoon dried parsley

For the Topping:

  • πŸ§€ 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • πŸ§€ 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 🌿 1 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
  • 🌿 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

πŸ“ Directions:

Prepare the Dough:

  1. Activate Yeast:
    In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes, until it becomes frothy.
  2. Mix Dough:
    In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead Dough:
    Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Let Dough Rise:
    Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Prepare the Garlic Butter:

  1. Mix Ingredients:
    In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, minced garlic, dried oregano, and dried parsley. Set aside.

Assemble the Breadsticks:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll Out Dough:
    Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick.
  3. Add Garlic Butter:
    Brush the rolled-out dough with the garlic butter mixture.
  4. Add Cheese:
    Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the dough. If desired, sprinkle dried basil and red pepper flakes on top.
  5. Cut and Arrange:
    Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut the dough into 1-inch wide strips. Transfer the strips to the prepared baking sheet, laying them close together.

Bake the Breadsticks:

    Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

    Allow the breadsticks to cool for a few minutes before serving.
