Classic Goulash is a hearty, comforting dish made with ground beef, tender pasta, and a rich tomato-based sauce. Simple to prepare and packed with flavor, it’s a family favorite perfect for a cozy dinner. This recipe is quick, easy, and delicious, making it ideal for weeknight meals!

πŸ“‹ Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef πŸ₯©
  • 1 large onion, chopped πŸ§…
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced πŸ§„
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce πŸ…
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (with juices) πŸ…
  • 1 cup water πŸ’§
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 🌿
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning 🌿
  • 1 teaspoon paprika 🌢️
  • Salt and pepper, to taste πŸ§‚
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked 🌾
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese πŸ§€ (optional)

πŸ“ Instructions:

1. Cook the Beef:

  1. Brown the meat:
  • In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until it’s browned and no longer pink. Break up the meat with a spoon as it cooks.
  1. Add onions and garlic:
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, until the onion is soft and translucent. Drain any excess grease.

2. Prepare the Sauce:

  1. Add the liquids:
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes (with their juices), water, and Worcestershire sauce.
  1. Season:
  • Sprinkle in the Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.

3. Cook the Pasta:

  1. Add macaroni:
  • Stir in the uncooked elbow macaroni. Cover the skillet with a lid, reduce the heat to medium-low, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the pasta is tender. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

4. Finish and Serve:

  1. Add cheese (optional):
  • If using, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top and stir until melted and combined.
  1. Serve:
  • Serve the goulash hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.

🍽️ Tips:

  • Add veggies: For extra flavor and nutrition, add diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or zucchini when cooking the onions and garlic.
  • Leftovers: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stove or in the microwave.
  • Cheese: The cheese is optional, but it adds a creamy texture and rich flavor to the goulash.
