Robert De Niro has been disinvited from an event where he was set to receive a prestigious award after making a controversial speech outside Donald Trump’s trial. The 80-year-old actor spoke at a Democrat-organized gathering near the New York courthouse where Trump faced charges of falsifying business records to cover up an affair before the 2016 election.
In his speech outside Manhattan Criminal Court, De Niro criticized Trump, calling him a “clown,” a “dictator,” and a “monster,” and clashed with Trump supporters, referring to them as “gangsters.”

Following this, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) decided to revoke their offer to honor De Niro with the Leadership Foundation’s Service to America Award, which he was supposed to receive on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the NAB explained that the event is intended to bring together people from across the political spectrum to celebrate the contributions of local broadcasters and their partners. De Niro’s recent actions, they noted, would detract from this goal.
While the NAB emphasized its support for free speech and civic engagement, they felt De Niro’s actions were too prominent to overlook. To maintain focus on the achievements of the award recipients, the decision was made to exclude De Niro from the event.
In response, De Niro released a statement to The Hill expressing his understanding and support for the NAB’s decision, wishing them success in their ongoing philanthropic work.
