How to Make an Insanely Effective Stain Remover: DIY Cleaning Power

September 18, 2023 by BMA24

An insanely effective stain remover can be a lifesaver when it comes to tackling stubborn stains on clothing, upholstery, or carpets. This DIY stain remover is easy to make and uses common household ingredients to powerfully lift and eliminate stains. Here’s how to create your own stain-fighting solution.

Materials You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup hydrogen peroxide
  • 1/2 cup dish soap (liquid)
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • A small mixing bowl
  • A spoon for stirring
  • A spray bottle

Instructions:

1. Assemble Your Ingredients:

  • Gather the hydrogen peroxide, liquid dish soap, and baking soda.

2. Prepare the Solution:

  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the following ingredients:
    • 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide
    • 1/2 cup of liquid dish soap
    • 1/2 cup of baking soda

3. Stir Thoroughly:

  • Use a spoon to mix the ingredients together until they form a smooth, homogeneous solution.

4. Pour into a Spray Bottle:

  • Transfer the stain remover mixture into a spray bottle. A funnel can be helpful for this step.

5. Label the Bottle:

  • To avoid confusion, label the spray bottle clearly as “Stain Remover.”

6. Test on an Inconspicuous Area:

  • Before using the stain remover on a visible area, test it on a small, inconspicuous spot to ensure it doesn’t cause any adverse effects, such as color fading or damage.

7. Apply to the Stain:

  • Spray the stain remover directly onto the stained area, saturating it thoroughly. Make sure to cover the entire stain.

8. Let It Sit:

  • Allow the stain remover to sit on the stain for at least 10-15 minutes. This gives it time to penetrate and break down the stain.

9. Blot or Scrub:

  • Depending on the type of stain and the material, you can blot the stain with a clean cloth or gently scrub it with a soft-bristle brush. Use a blotting motion for delicate fabrics.

10. Rinse and Launder:

  • After treating the stain, rinse the area with cold water to remove the stain remover residue.
  • If the stain persists, repeat the process.
  • Launder the item as usual, following the care instructions on the fabric label.

11. Check the Stain:

  • After washing, check the stained area to ensure the stain is completely gone before drying the item. Drying can set a stain, making it harder to remove later.

12. Air Dry:

  • If the stain is still visible, avoid using heat to dry the item, as heat can further set the stain. Instead, air dry it and repeat the stain removal process.

This insanely effective DIY stain remover can remove everything from food and beverage spills to grease and oil marks. You can have a powerful stain-fighting solution at your fingertips with common household ingredients and a little patience, allowing you to keep your fabrics and surfaces looking clean and pristine..
