Recipe :

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed (usually found in the freezer section)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet (about 2 tablespoons) taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your preferred cheese)
  • 1/2 cup black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup corn kernels (fresh, frozen, or canned)
  • 1/4 cup diced red bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup diced green bell pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
  • Sour cream, guacamole, or additional salsa for serving (optional)

Instructions :

1. Preheat and Prepare:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Cook the Ground Beef:

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and crumbled. Drain any excess grease.
  • Stir in the taco seasoning mix and cook for a few more minutes until the beef is well-seasoned. Remove it from the heat.

3. Assemble the Braid:

  • Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Along the center third of the pastry, spread the seasoned ground beef, leaving some space around the edges.
  • Layer the salsa, shredded cheese, black beans, corn, and diced bell peppers over the ground beef.

4. Create the Braid:

  • Using a sharp knife, cut 1-inch-wide strips along both sides of the pastry, leaving the center intact. Then, fold the top and bottom edges over the filling.
  • Begin braiding the pastry by folding the strips over the filling in a crisscross pattern, creating a beautiful braid. Tuck in any loose ends.

5. Brush and Bake:

  • Brush the top of the Taco Braid with the beaten egg. This will give it a lovely golden sheen when baked.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden.

6. Garnish and Serve:

  • Once out of the oven, garnish the Taco Braid with fresh cilantro if desired.
  • Slice the braid into servings and serve hot. Accompany it with sour cream, guacamole, or extra salsa for dipping, if you like.
