Ingredients:
- 🍞 2 slices of your favorite bread (white, sourdough, or whole wheat)
- 🧈 1-2 tablespoons butter, softened (or mayonnaise, for a golden crust)
- 🧀 2-3 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, or a mix of cheeses)
Instructions:
- Butter the bread: Spread butter (or mayonnaise) evenly on one side of each slice of bread. This will be the side that faces the pan for a crispy, golden crust.
- Assemble the sandwich: Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in a cold skillet. Layer the cheese slices on top, then cover with the other slice of bread, buttered side up.
- Cook low and slow: Heat the skillet over medium-low heat. Allow the sandwich to cook for 2-4 minutes, pressing lightly with a spatula, until the bottom is golden and the cheese begins to melt.
- Flip and finish: Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 2-4 minutes until the other side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
- Serve: Remove from the pan, let cool slightly, slice, and serve hot.
